Southern Biscuits
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour (3 for larger recipe)
- 2 tsp sugar (3 for larger recipe)
- 2 tsp baking powder (3 for larger recipe)
- 1 tsp salt (1 ½ for larger recipe)
- ½ tsp soda (3/4 for larger recipe)
- 1/3 cup shortening (1/2 for larger recipe)
- 2/3 cups buttermilk (1 for larger recipe)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F.
- Mix dry ingredients in food processor or by hand.
- Add shortening, pulse until mixture looks like meal.
- Add just enough buttermilk to make a soft, easy to roll dough.
- Knead 20-25 times.
- Roll a little less than ½" thick, cut and place on ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake 10-12 minutes.
- These are more tender than regular baking powder biscuits. Great with sausage gravy.
